Cyberpunk 2021
Cyberpunk 2021 is a project of love. Although it can be unhealthy, I am obsessed with futurism and most things technological. I look to often produce works that settle on a society or state of people that seem a bit surreal and out of our reach. Around this same time, CDPR (CD Project Red) was releasing their heavily anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 title. This was everything I loved in gaming format. As such, I took it upon myself to create an inspired shoot that would both reflect on futurism tied into a “Purge” theme.
Elements
Deciding on what to use as elements is a pretty straightforward action. Despite going out to pick masks, props, and location, one other element would majorly effect our end result. My biggest choice was to shoot on location at night. Consequently, nighttime is not the choice for most people. It severely limits both visibility and light spread. Light spread, ambient specifically, will always be of assistance to any shoot taken on location. If there is too much light, then there is an easy way to dial that down. Shooting at night presents the opposite difficulty. If there is not enough light, how do we make more and still present the mood of the image.
Final
In order to present the final images in the proper light, I use mood, contrast, and delirium as a theme. This is intentionally done. The production took a few hours and three locations to complete. To work with this, I use LED’s with an enclosed tunnel, street lights with strobes, and a slightly higher ISO than normal. Props are a gun and mask (replicas from the game “Overwatch”), sword (Sasuke Uchiha’s from the anime “Naruto”), and an additional mask with makeup underneath.
