Mwanga x Adorned In Taji x AFROPUNK
The release is real. It takes time to cook up the perfect storm and Mwanga x Adorned In Taji x AFROPUNK doesn’t disappoint. So what exactly does that mean? Well I will tell you. It’s more like a combination of two things. Certified Crystal and Chakra Healer Nay Marie, owner of Adorned In Taji, takes to the heart of AFROPUNK and creates a beautiful impromptu release event. Mwanga is the name of the full couture gold cowrie Adorned In Taji dress. All made at the hands and mind of Nay Marie.
Cowrie?
Yes, you can hear perfectly clear. It is a 100% hand made cowrie dress. Not one part of the labor went unattended by hand customization. The beauty of it all is that I had the pleasure of watching this item come to life. It isn’t every day that you get to sit next to a designer with a concept and watch them bring it to life by hand. As an Illustrator, Designer, and Photographer, I can greatly appreciate the level of dedication and craftmanship that goes into an undertaking such as this.
How did it go?
Well, no-one has any idea when things like this happen. All with intention. Not surprisingly this event proved to be exactly the same. During the turn of the afternoon to evening, our model “Z” arrived and joined us in the vendor area at the Adorned In Taji booth. Being careful, Nay and I slowly fit Z with the dress. It has wait to it and a $7k price tag, so handling with care is a given. Once we have the outfit on Z we take directly to my setup of a single light setup. The setup was designed to illuminate Z who is now shrouded in darkness due to the time. This light isolates the subject by keeping a relatively small light area. Due to the depth behind Z we are able to ensure that most background elements are dark and then further isolate in post.
The final product is an amazing display of beauty. To sum up, it is something we are all very proud of.
