How it Started
The surprise came during the warmer weather once there was a break in quarantine. This particular session was for an engagement. The engagement takes place at Asbury Park. Asbury is a location in New Jersey right by the water. There is a boardwalk, shops, a beach with rocks and waterfront view, as well as many landmarks. This makes it a particularly huge congregation area for couples and families.
Shocking
In this particular instance, Paul was planning for this to be a surprise. The plan? To have Michelle join him at Asbury Park and have pictures taken next to a purchased Christmas tree. This would be the best excuse because of the approaching holiday season. Paul placed the small tree in the sand and underneath the base setting material were the words “Will you marry me?” My goal was only to get various pictures of them with the beautiful views and then wait for the special moment.
Problems Arise
Almost immediately as we stepped away from the tree, others appeared thinking the Paul’s surprise was for all. They began taking pictures by it not realizing the purpose. Paul naturally became flustered and after seeing this, but without speaking, I signaled for us to head back. When we got there we let one other couple get pics before telling them it was his display and not the park’s.
How it Ended
Paul immediately prepped for proposal. While doing so he slowly rotated to grab her hand and talk to her. He found himself on one knee, with ring, revealing the wording and a new fiance. Everything went beautifully. We followed it all up with landmark pictures that celebrate the area’s meaning to them.
