The Water Element Series
This particular session was under the creative direction of Coco aka “Brush Queen”. Normally the makeup artist for our shoots, Coco also steps in front of the camera when she is inspired to do so. This shoot showed us how difficult and unforgiving some of our locations can be. The location was roughly 1 hour away from New York where we set out to find a specific waterfall which we would shoot at. We soon found ourselves faced with large crowds, a trickling waterfall, and a dress that would take on tons of water. To get most shots Coco would sit in the water, but it presented an issue as the dress became weighted due to soaking up so much water. The other complication were the small fish that found themselves jumping into the dress.
The Vision
The water element series is similar only in elemental theme to our 2 prior shoots. We chose to take an approach that would focus on the form and depth of field of each photo. Because the waterfall wasn’t too large, we had to make it seem a bit more intimidating in our close up shots. Keeping these shots a secret until release was difficult. Unlike our previous shoot, here we needed to hide Coco while she modeled from the tons of foot traffic that pulled out phones to get a picture. There was a group who had a similar desire to use the location before us. They were very open to others taking pictures, which made it a bit difficult to stop them when it was our turn. We were able to get the shots we needed while at the same time keeping everyone happy.
