The Wind Element Series
This particular session was under the creative direction of Coco aka “Brush Queen”. Normally the makeup artist for our shoots, Coco also steps in front of the camera when she is inspired to do so. This was both one of our smoothest and seemingly most powerful shoots. The location was absolutely gorgeous and it was our first time shooting there. Despite being a large public state park, we found that it is also eerily quiet, but peacefully so. You could hear the wind as it gently passed through the area. The shoot itself comes across as pretty straightforward… drop in location, find lighting and setting, and shoot. And although this was our first time here, we decided to gamble and even step into the taller grass areas to get some exceptional depth of field shots.
The Goal
The wind element series is similar to our previous three shoots. This session was to focus purely on what the element of wind may look like in physical form. Due to the overcast sky, the available light kept itself pretty hidden. The positive is that any photographer knows that an overcast day will provide you with a great soft lighting for your subject. Seeing as our theme was wind, many shots were composed to showcase the blowing of the grass/wheat with the flow of the dress and jewelry/adornments. The other intention was to juxtapose Coco in the white outfit with the darker ground and the lighter-gray cloudy sky. Using wider angle lenses allowed for me to play with perspective and draw the viewer in with a bit more depth. It was an amazing shoot that would eventually inspire us to utilize this location more often.
